Wastewater produced by the food
and beverage industry poses unique treatment challenges, including high
concentrations of oil and grease, organics and inorganics, variability in flows
and concentrations, and presence of disinfectants used in equipment cleaning. The Experts in this discussion will highlight
the many issues and solutions to address the food and beverage industry's
unique wastewater challenges.
At the end of this learning
module, participants will be able to
describe the unique application of
aerobic and anaerobic membrane bioreactors to food and beverage waste
treatment;
identify was to integrate UASB and
activated sludge in food and beverage waste treatment; and
give examples of how to address
high sulfate concentrations in anaerobic treatment and quaternary ammonium
surfactants in aerobic treatment.
This learning module is also available as a part of the Food and Beverage Water Management short course.
