Stormwater Technology Innovations – Trends in Real-Time Monitoring, Predictive Modeling, and Adaptive Controls
This live webcast will take place on Thursday, September 26, 2024, from 1:00 - 2:30 PM Eastern. The webcast recording will be available within 24 hours after the webcast ends.
The stormwater industry is experiencing a digital revolution in which data and information are increasingly used to perceive the world, assess situations, determine courses of action, and then execute those actions. Specifically, advances in communications and control technologies have led to significant improvements in real-time monitoring, live modeling, and adaptive control. During this era of digital adoption, previously-isolated monitoring, modeling, and control technologies are being integrated resulting in a better understanding of stormwater systems, quicker action, and real progress in how communities mitigate flood risk.
The WEF Stormwater Innovation & Technology Focus Group has identified the digital evolution of stormwater asset management as a key driver for improvement in water quality and quantity control. During the presentation, a brief overview of the technologies will be provided, followed by presentations of current trends in the industry and academia using real-world case studies. The speakers will discuss how real-time monitoring provides insights into how stormwater systems perform, show how predictive modeling delivers decision support to communities in advance of storm events, and give examples of adaptive controls that optimize stormwater management. Finally, a discussion on how integrating these technologies (e.g., using real-time monitoring to set boundary conditions for predictive modeling which informs adaptive control logic) to improve outcomes for communities will be provided.
