Based on the framework of the highly successful Intensification of Resource Recovery (IR2) Forums, WEF will be hosting a Knowledge Development Forum (KDF) about biogas cleaning and upgrading. The KDF was planned in coordination with the Bioenergy subcommittee of the WEF Residuals and Biosolids Committee and the Implementation of Innovation in Infrastructure (I3) Committee (formerly the LIFT steering committee). On the first day, technology suppliers will provide technical presentations about hydrogen sulfide treatment, siloxane and VOC treatment, and biogas upgrading. On the second day, utility professionals will share their first-hand experience on biogas upgrading projects through case studies, industry experts will give a market outlook for renewable natural gas (RNG) and commercial considerations for these projects will be discussed. At the end of the KDF, a team of utility professionals and stakeholders will plan collaborative next steps (joint pilots, workshops at RBC/WEFTEC, performance reports, etc.) to advance biogas usage at water resource recovery facilities.
