WEF Webcast Program

WEF offers two dozen webcasts a year on a variety of industry topics!

The Water Environment Federation is dedicated to advancing the professional growth and expertise of its members and the entire water sector. WEF provides high-quality programming, training, and services that will equip water professionals with the latest industry trends, practices, technologies, and solutions. Through our training and education opportunities, WEF strives to attract and develop a diverse and passionate water workforce that will help us achieve the goal of a life free of water challenges.

Webcasts are an hour and a half to two hours long. Recommended Professional Development Hours (PDHs) may be earned for participating in most webcasts.

Webcasts are available to everyone at no charge.

Accessing Webcasts

Live webcasts are accessible on the day of the webcast by logging into your WEF Learning Center account and selecting the webcast from your available courses on your account Dashboard page. On the webcast page, there is also the option to download a calendar event that can be added to your personal calendar; this event contains a link directly to the webcast page.

Archived webcasts are accessible on demand. Simply enroll in the course and access the webcast recording video on the webcast page.

Continuing Education

Continuing education credits are issued as PDHs* for many WEF webcasts. For webcasts on the WEF Learning Center, certificates can be obtained after viewing the webcast and are available through the Learning Center platform.

For webcasts not on the Learning Center, certificates of attendance with recommended PDHs may be available depending on the content of the webcast. If certificates are being offered, it will be noted and a link will be provided for attendees to complete a short survey. Once the survey is complete, attendees will be able to download their certificate; they will need to add their name and the amount of credit they qualify for to the certificate. Some states may require a site monitor’s signature as confirmation of attendance. If you do not have a site monitor, you may have your HR representative or supervisor sign this certificate.

Please note: Many states differ in the types and/or numbers of credits they will approve for educational events. Participants are responsible for exploring their state requirements and for ensuring that WEF credits are accepted by their state licensing agency.

*Professional Development Hour (PDH) credits are issued at 1 (one) credit for every session hour and should be assigned correctly on each certificate. Most states will convert the PDH to the locally-approved credit type where applicable.

How do I access webcasts?

Webcast Development

The WEF Webcast Program provides an opportunity to share technical presentations in an engaging format. We welcome submissions from WEF Technical Communities or WEF members at large and affiliated groups to host online training events for WEF members and non-members alike. The Webcast Program produces technical and informational webcast events for water industry professionals; attendees have the option to receive a certificate of completion that can be submitted for PDH/CEU credits (subject to local state approval).

Topic: Webcast events are 1.5-2 hours and generally formatted as discussions/surveys of one or more of the following general topics:

New/updated technology and/or processes
Recent industry trends
Recent regulatory updates
Reviews of fundamental or advanced skills/knowledge
Updates on community initiatives of a technical nature

Individual communities are responsible for selecting topics for webcast events, whether directly or through a delegated webcast subcommunity/team. Individual WEF members not affiliated with a community are also invited to submit proposals. Webcasts should be of a technical and informational nature and meet basic expectations of objectivity.

Organizer: For each webcast, communities should select a designated organizer who will be the main point of contact with WEF staff throughout the development process. The organizer, in consultation with other speakers or community members, will be the person primarily responsible for refining the selected topic and identifying individual presentation subtopics, recruiting speakers for those presentations, and consulting with speakers on presentation content; in addition, the organizer often also serves as the event moderator but need not be. Organizers are encouraged to work with communities and WEF staff to help refine and improve proposals.

*When recruiting speakers, be sure to provide them with the required speaker release form as soon as possible for signature; speakers will not be allowed to participate if they are unable to sign the release.

Timeline: Webcast organizers should reach out to WEF staff with a completed proposal form. WEF staff will work with the organizers to select an event date that is at least 10 weeks from the current date. WEF staff will schedule a kick-off call with the presentation team shortly after the event date is confirmed to review the webcast process. Staff will also schedule a webcast practice session the week before the webcast event. Organizers are welcome to schedule further calls with the presentation team as needed and independent of staff.
