Aeration Design and Optimization Short Course

This is a WEFTEC Curated Short Course, compiled from the most topical and in-demand content from WEFTEC and other WEF events.

Aeration is one of the fundamental processes of wastewater treatment. It also is the most energy intensive part of the process. As water resource recovery facilities work toward reducing energy costs, aeration is a main focus. The goal is to reduce the energy needed by making aeration as efficient as possible.

This short course provides a foundation on the design and efficient operation of aeration technologies for all levels of learner, including design engineers, operators, and utility managers.

At the conclusion of this short course, participants will be able to

  • describe different aeration technologies and the appropriate applications, including diffusers, blowers, and process control;
  • explain the role of aeration in the wastewater treatment process;
  • describe how the process works; and
  • recognize strategies to optimize conventional biological nutrient removal processes.

This WEFTEC Curated Short Course consists of 3 learning modules (Aeration Diffuser Technologies, Secondary School on Aeration, and Aeration Design and Optimization) as well as some bonus content and additional resources. On completion of all three learning modules, learners will receive a badge that can be shared on networking sites such as LinkedIn.
