Infrastructure Resilience Short Course

This is a WEFTEC Curated Short Course, compiled from the most topical and in-demand content from WEFTEC and other WEF events.

Critical water and wastewater infrastructure needs to be protected from a variety of extreme events. Water Resource Recovery Facilities are being designed or retrofitted to withstand the impacts of such events. Stressors such as climate change, however, are intensifying extreme weather events which can potentially cause greater damage to critical wastewater infrastructure in the future. Issues such as seismic activity, sea level rise, drought, and water conservation are also impacting facilities and their ability to keep up with the needed improvements. Public communication is an important part of all these issues.

This short course provides case studies and examples so you can address potential impacts at your facility and increase your facility’s resilience.

At the conclusion of this short course, participants will be able to:

  • distinguish the possible threats to their facility and infrastructure;
  • give examples of how other cities have successfully confronted sea level rise, flood risks, seismic activity, and other extreme events; and
  • describe lessons learned from case studies and apply them to your own facility.

This WEFTEC Curated Short Course consists of 2 learning modules (Facility Resilience, Flooding Resilience) as well as some bonus content and additional resources. On completion of all learning modules, learners will receive a badge that can be shared on networking sites such as LinkedIn.
